Design, Analysis & Optimization of Pivot of Rocker Arm2016 •
2020 •
The Rocker-Bogie Mobility System was designed to be used at slow speeds. It is capable of overcoming Obstacles that are on the order of side of a wheel. However, when surmounting a sizeable obstacle, the vehicles motion effectively stops while the front wheel climbs the obstacle. NASA's currently favored design, the Rocker-Bogie, uses a two wheeled rocker arm on a passive pivot attached to a main bogie that is connected differentially to the main bogie on the other side. This paper describes a method of driving a Rocker-Bogie vehicle so that it can effectively step over most obstacles rather than impacting and climbing over them. Most of the benefits of this method can be achieved without any mechanical modification to existing designs only a change in control strategy. Some mechanical changes are suggested to gather maximum benefit and to greatly increase the effective operational speed of future rovers. The rover has been completely made from PVC to increase its capability to withstand shocks, vibrations and mechanical failures caused by the harsh environment where it is operated on. Using CAD software, the design of the rover has been fine-tuned and by experimenting with prototypes and models of the rover in the experimental setup of the live test.
The component rocker arm is one of the most important parts in valve actuating mechanism of an internal combustion engine. From many years research is going on in the automotive industries considering various factors of optimization like cost, weight, stresses, material compositions, etc. The failure of the rocker arm in valve actuating mechanism is measure concern. To study and analyze stresses generated, we are modelling rocker arm using CATIA CAD software and the various regions of stresses and deformations found out using OPTISTRUCT-RADIOSS structural analysis solver which gives solution for structural optimization using finite element analysis (FEA). In this project, we are using four different materials preferred in industries which are structural steel, aluminium, carbon steel and HMCF (High modulus carbon fibre). So by comparing analytical results and FEA results for all above materials we can study stress level and deformation in rocker arm at extreme load conditions and going to propose best suitable material among above materials on the basis of strength, durability, life and cost of material. The main purpose of this study is to determine the value of stresses in rocker arm at extreme conditions.

The lower control arm is an interesting kind of autonomous suspension utilized in car vehicles. During the genuine working condition, the most extreme load is moved from upper arm to the lower control arm which makes plausibility of failure in the arm. Henceforth it is fundamental to concentrate on the stress investigation of lower control arm to improve and alter the current design. A lower control arm is a significant part utilized in a suspension arrangement of a vehicle. So, this arm execution a significant job in dealing with the movement of the wheel during knock, turning, and breaking. In present research design of lower control arm in CATIA software. ANSYS 19 software was also used for analyze the structural strength and optimize the parts weight along with modal analysis to determine natural frequency with mode shape and validate the results with FFT technique. The target of the new design was a 20% weight reduction from the existing part fabricated using steel material. Testing and validation of new design using FFT technique.
–Lower control arm is a component used in a suspension system of a car. It plays an whittle role in managing the motion of the wheel during bump, turning, and breaking. There are so many shapes of control arm like L-shape, and U-shape. The scope here in this project is to optimize the L-shape control arm with respect to weight with two different materials (steel & aluminium).
