Call for Journal Articles The Hungarian Historical Review invites submissions for its third issue in 2022, the theme of which will be Economy, the Connecting Force in Central and Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages The deadline for the submission of abstracts: January 31, 2022. The deadline for the accepted papers: April 30, 2022. The Hungarian Historical Review invites research papers that examine how economic interests and considerations functioned as a connecting and shaping force among individuals, social groups, communities, institutions, organizations, regions, states, and royal dynasties between the eleventh century and the sixteenth. The issue will examine the emergence and strengthening of networks and connections from the perspective of economic interests and market conditions in Central Europe and Eastern Europe and also between Central and Eastern Europe and other parts of Europe and the world. More specifically, welcome research papers that discuss one or more of the following questions: How did economic exigencies play function as a connecting and shaping force within and among social groups, secular and ecclesiastical organizations and institutions, territories, and states? How did market conditions influence the formation and functioning of urban communities? How did economic interests connect urban centers with their hinterland, the larger state, and territories on the far side of state borders? How did economic priorities serve at times as a driving force behind integration, disintegration, or seclusion? How did royal authorities use economic instruments to further state building endeavors, maintain or tighten their hold on power, and promote territorial expansion? The geographical focus of the issue is Central and Eastern Europe. However, we do not confine ourselves to the strict geographical borders of the region, especially in the case of comparative papers. We welcome proposals from scholars at all stages of their careers pursuing work on any of the aspects of the questions raised above.
