Immediate loading of four implants (BTLock ®) in the maxilla and provisional restoration with guidesurgery (SimPlant, Materialise ®): case report. The severe atrophy of the jaws are a challenging therapeutic problem, since the increase in bone is necessary to allow the placement of a sufficient number of implants. Combining immediate functionalization with the concept of guided surgery they combine the advantages offered by the innovative surgical and prosthetic implant technique (All-on-Four ®) with those of computer-assisted planning in cases of severe bone atrophy. The method used in this case report, combines these two concepts in a surgical and prosthetic protocol safe and effective for the immediate function of 4 implants to support a fixed prosthesis in completely edentulous subjects. The integration of technology with immediate function with the concept of computer-guided surgery for implant placement and rehabilitation of completely edentulous jaws is now a predictable treatment modality with implant survival comparable to the traditional protocols.

Introduction: While malocclusion exerts both physical and emotional effects on laypersons, with increasing awareness of malocclusion and its aesthetic impairment, there must be psychological impact of malocclusion amongst students entering into a dental school. The null hypothesis proposed was increasing grades of the course results in higher self esteem and poorer quality of life amongst students pursuing on undergraduate course in dentistry. Aim: The aim was to determine the relationship between severity of malocclusion, self esteem (SE) and orthognathic quality of life (OQoL) among female dental undergraduate students. Material and Methods: The study sample was divided batchwise into four groups according to the grades. Written questionnaires for SE and OQoL were given to 83 female undergraduate students with no craniofacial anomalies, medical problems, and history of previous orthodontic treatment. To determine the severity of malocclusion, the subjects were later examined for Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI) score. Descriptive statistics for DAI, SE and OQOL were performed and elements of each group were compared using ANOVA. Spearman Rank Correlation coefficient was done to measure the level of association between the variables. Results & Discussion: While 3rd year students presented with higher DAI and least OQOL score, there was a statistically significant negative correlation between DAI and OQOL, indicating more negative psychological impact of malocclusion with learning. Interns had higher SE and maximum OQoL. ANOVA results showed only statistically significant difference between the groups for SE indicating more armour propre with training and maturity. However, no significant correlation was noted between SE and OQol. Conclusions: Malocclusion does hamper the quality of life but increasing grades and cumulative understanding also influence the self esteem amongst dental undergraduates.

Purpose: To evaluate the association between chlorhexidine application and the bond strength of an adhesive system to dentin and to assess the association among eight other variables. Materials and Methods: Laboratory studies evaluating the use of chlorhexidine on dentin that verified the immediate and longitudinal bond strength were included. The terms were selected according to the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) for PubMed and adapted for the other databases accordingly. Systematic searches were conducted in 3 electronic databases in December 2010: PubMed, EMBASE, and LILACS. Languages were limited to English, Spanish, and Portuguese. Results: All longitudinal bond strength studies were analyzed in accordance with the inclusion/exclusion criteria, totaling 16 articles. A meta-regression analysis was performed with articles containing complete mean bond strength data (n = 14 articles). Conclusion: Our results showed that the association between the concentration of chlorhexidine and the bond strength is, apparently, not linear. Therefore, future large-scale studies should be developed to investigate the association between the chlorhexidine concentration and hybrid layer preservation.
