Dal mondo antico allʼinizio del terzo millennio: migliaia di saggi e oltre 10.000 immagini, un imponente corpus testuale e iconografico organizzato in periodi cronologici e in aree tematiche: storia, filosofia, arti visive, scienza e tecnologia, musica, letteratura e teatro, comunicazione. Nel Novecento gli intrecci fra arte, politica, società hanno prodotto ribaltamenti, cancellazioni e rinascite di modelli artistici oscillanti fra la ricerca di un ordine nuovo e la fascinazione per l’irrazionale, fra l’assunzione dell’arte come strumento politico e il rigetto di ogni ideologia, fra la tensione a un’arte individuale e aristocratica o al contrario anonima e collettiva. Nella collisione di fine Ottocento fra tradizione e novità dirompenti cola a picco l’idea di continuità nella storia: il secolo si apre all’insegna della rottura e delle sperimentazioni più ardite in termini di linguaggio e di contenuti. Le avanguardie, tra cui si contano cubismo, espressionismo, futurismo, neoplasticismo e costruttivismo, alleate in un percorso di astrazione, tagliano traguardi che paiono senza ritorno: la cancellazione del soggetto, la forma come forma assoluta, la nuova preminenza del linguaggio, la negazione del racconto, l’esilio dei sentimenti, tutte conquiste che sanciscono il primato culturale dell’Europa. Finché nell’arco di alcuni decenni si verifica un capovolgimento di prospettiva col ritorno al figurativo e con lo spostamento del cuore culturale dall’Europa verso New York e Los Angeles, rimesso più tardi in discussione dall’emergere della nuova polarità dell’Asia. In questo ebook si possono trovare tutte le maggiori espressioni artistiche del Novecento, in cui l’ideale dell’arte subisce un progressivo spostamento verso il futuro, arrivando, nelle sue forme più estreme, a produrre un’arte internazionalista, senza radici e senza memoria, dotata di una lingua aniconica universale, che cancella i confini delle identità nazionali e si proietta nella realtà globalizzata.

Las investigaciones realizadas para la elaboración del informe histórico-artístico encargado para la restauración de la torre campanario de la iglesia parroquial de Ricla (Zaragoza) han permitido trazar con bastante precisión la historia constructiva y la correspondiente crítica de autenticidad del monumento. Así, hoy estamos en condiciones de afirmar que fue levantada por Juan Lucas Botero el Joven en 1542 y recrecida durante la segunda mitad del siglo XVI. También se ha podido precisar que ese cuerpo superior terminó generando graves problemas estructurales, que fue derribado a comienzos del siglo XVIII, y reconstruido poco después, para reformarse a mediados del siglo XIX y, por última vez, un siglo más tarde, a mediados del XX. Para entonces, su característico chapitel bulboso fue sustituido por el remate edicular inspirado en el de la torre de Utebo que todavía puede contemplarse en la actualidad.

Musical Portraits: The Composition of Identity in Contemporary and Experimental Music explores the wide-ranging but under-examined genre of musical portraiture. It focuses in particular on contemporary and experimental music created between 1945 and the present day, an era in which conceptions of identity have changed alongside increasing innovation in musical composition as well as in the uses of abstraction, mixed media, and other novel techniques in the field of visual portraiture. In the absence of physical likeness, an element typical of portraiture that cannot be depicted in sound, composers have experimented with methods of constructing other attributes of identity in music, such as character, biography, and profession. By studying musical portraits of painters, authors, and modern celebrities, in addition to composers' self-portraits, the book considers how representational and interpretive processes overlap and differ between music and other art forms, as well as how music is used in the depiction of human identities. Examining a range of musical portraits by composers including Peter Ablinger, Pierre Boulez, Morton Feldman, Philip Glass, György Ligeti, and Virgil Thomson, and director Robert Wilson's on-going series of video portraits of modern-day celebrities and his "portrait opera" Einstein on the Beach, Musical Portraits contributes to the study of music since 1945 through a detailed examination of contemporary understandings of music's capacity to depict identity, and of the intersections between music, literature, theater, film, and the visual arts.

Zárkózott, fojtott, szenvedélyes embernek írják le az emlékezők. Némelyek szerint folyton Monopol gyúrógumit, mások szerint kenyérgalacsinokat gyúrogatott, ami, teszik hozzá, állandó idegfeszültségre vall. A tésztagyurma aztán jól jött a szén visszatörléséhez. Beszélnek a csíki székely zömök alkatáról, mélyen ülő, apró, de sötét lobogású szemeiről, átható tekintetéről "titkos méhszúrástól megdagadt szemhéjak alatt", széles arccsontjairól, s arról, hogy keveset beszélt, de akkor vulkáni törmelékként köpte ki az egymáshoz ragasztott szavakat. "Egyetsebeszélj." 

A nyelvteremtés közel áll a dadogáshoz, a diszlexiához, az elnémuláshoz. „Nem értem én az emberi beszédet és nem beszélem a te nyelvedet.” Újra fel kell találni a szavakat, újra fel kell találni a szórendet. A nyelvteremtésben Nagy István éppen eddig ment el. A konszenzusos, az elvárt nem korlátozta. Szándékosan eltért, ellépett a megszokott látványtól. Minden nap új szemmel látta ugyanazt a fekete tavat, ugyanazt az elnyelő szurdokot.

Several series of Sibyls, of variable number and quality, that have been
previously attributed to different painters within Peter Paul Rubens’ circle, in foreign and Spanish collections, as well as in the art market, are here claimed to be by the hand of the Flemish master Jan van den Hoecke. The persistent confusion both in terms of attribution and identification of the subject matter is clarified in this paper, following on from Hans Vlieghe’s 1990 evidence. Tracing the now dispersed series as far as possible, the present article pays special attention to the eleven canvasses at Tessé Museum, Le Mans, as they appear part of a unique ensemble that still remains undispersed. For these series Jan van den Hoecke created an original iconography, with no formal precedents. Comparison of the different versions allows for a deciphering of the Latin texts accompanying each depiction, and for an identification of their literal sources. Judging by the numerous versions, the series of Sibyls must have rewarded the artist with great success, a demand that he
satisfied with a changeable effort.

La autoría del pintor flamenco Jan van den Hoecke se reivindica en varias series de Sibilas, de variable número y calidad, atribuidas a otros pintores de la estela de Peter Paul Rubens en colecciones españolas y extranjeras, así como en el comercio del arte. Tanto las atribuciones como la identificación de los asuntos son objeto de una gran confusión que persiste y se esclarece en este artículo, en base a lo avanzado por Hans Vlieghe en 1990. Se sigue la pista de los diversos ejemplares hoy dispersos en la medida de lo posible, prestando especial atención a los lienzos del museo de Tessé de Le Mans, por ser el único ejemplo existente de una serie que se conserva unida. Jan van den Hoecke fue el creador de una iconografía original que se distancia de los precedentes formales. La comparación entre los diferentes ejemplares permite descifrar los textos en latín que acompañan cada representación, precisando sus fuentes literarias. A juzgar por la elevada cantidad de versiones localizadas, es tema que le proporcionó éxito y demanda que satisfizo con esfuerzo cambiante.

Votive objects or ex-votos are a broad category of material artifacts produced with the intention of being offered as acts of faith. Common across historical periods, religions, and cultures, they are presented as tokens of gratitude for prayers answered, as well as the physical manifestation of hopes and anxieties. Agents of Faith explores votive offerings in the context of material culture, art history, and religious studies to better understand their history and present-day importance. By looking at what humans have chosen to offer in their votive transactions, this volume uncovers their most intimate moments in life and questions the nature, role, and function of one of the most fundamental aspects of the relationship between people and things—the imbuing of objects with sentiment. Encompassing exquisite works of art as well as votives of humble origin and material, with objects dating from 2000 B.C. to the twenty-first century, the beautiful illustrations and wide-ranging text expose the global reach of votive practices and the profoundly personal nature behind their creation.

The symposium “The found Christ” took place in Cervignano del Friuli (Udine) on Saturday, December 3, 2005, within the homonymous multi-year project (coord. scient. S. Blason Scarel and P. Casadio) dedicated to the rediscovery of the "Christ of the Countess", a colossal medieval wooden crucifix preserved in the chapel of St. Cross, the gentilitial oratory of the villa Bresciani in Cervignano. The Conference Proceedings are published two years later, enriched by further updates: in the volume the author outlines – for the first time – the history of the residence founded by the noble Bresciani family in Cervignano (the precious 'background' of the ancient sculpture) and he describes the different buildings, the dependencies and the furnishings including his famous 'guest', suggesting again the proposal that he already put forth at the symposium: that it is to be identified with the "Christ of St. Felix", a gigantic wooden crucifix seen in 1570 by the apostolic visitor Bartolomeo of Porcia & Brugnera inside the Basilica of Sts. Felix e Fortunate in Aquileia, at that time still raised although no more flourishing

Sabato 3 dicembre 2005 a Cervignano si svolse il convegno “Il Cristo ritrovato”, nell’ambito dell’omonimo progetto pluriennale (coordinamento scientifico: S. Blason Scarel - P. Casadio) dedicato alla riscoperta del “Cristo della Contessa”, il colossale crocifisso ligneo medievale conservato nella cappella di S. Croce, l’oratorio gentilizio della villa Bresciani a Cervignano. A due anni di distanza vede la luce il volume degli atti – arricchito da ulteriori aggiornamenti – al cui interno l’autore per la prima volta delinea le vicende storiche della dimora cervignanese fatta costruire dalla nobile famiglia Bresciani (il prezioso ‘sfondo’ dell’antica scultura) e ne descrive i diversi fabbricati, le pertinenze e l’arredo compreso il suo celebre ‘ospite’, riproponendo la proposta già avanzata durante il convegno: che esso sia da identificare con il “Cristo di San Felice”, il gigantesco crocifisso in legno visto dal visitatore apostolico Bartolomeo di Porcia e Brugnera nel 1570 all’interno della basilica aquileiese dei Santi Felice e Fortunato, all’epoca non più fiorente ma ancora in alzato

Questo volume ha un' importanza rilevante sia in sé sia nell' ambito del progetto generale del Fondo Edifici di Culto sulle chiese di proprietà sparse in tutta l' Italia.
Ecco una ennesima occasione prestigiosa per ribadire nel modo più semplice quel principio sempre ricordato da ogni amministratore e ogni studioso della materia ma non sempre chiarissimo alla conoscenza di ognuno di noi: l' immensità e la pregnanza del patrimonio artistico della Nazione.
Siamo tutti convinti di come tale patrimonio sia un esempio preclaro di quel concetto del bene comune che tanto giovamento ha arrecato e arreca ai progressi del vivere civile, della giurisprudenza, della gestione economico-finanziaria e della vita quotidiana. Ma quando andiamo a verificare la concreta proprietà di tale patrimonio pubblico restiamo sempre incerti sulle competenze specifiche e sulle responsabilità.
A chi appartengono le chiese? Mi è capitato spesso di rispondere a un tale quesito, sovente posto da persone di cultura e di esperienza, e ho ripetutamente notato lo stupore di chi viene correttamente informato.
È ancora vigente, infatti, nella mente di molti il luogo comune per cui le chiese apparterrebbero sostanzialmente al Vaticano, cioè alla Chiesa, e per i più esperti perlomeno dovrebbero essere proprietà dei Vicariati, che nessuno sa bene cosa siano ma se ne sente molto parlare o delle Diocesi. Non è così, ancorché non manchino certamente le proprietà facenti capo alle diverse Diocesi, ma la confusione in questo campo regna sovrana e ancora oggi molti stentano a credere che la maggior parte delle chiese monumentali di questo Paese o sono proprietà dello Stato o sono comunque sottoposte alla tutela imprescindibile delle amministrazioni pubbliche.
Sembra incredibile ma per molti nostri concittadini le guerre di indipendenza, le vicende della individuazione della capitale dell' Italia unita, la Breccia di Porta Pia, il concetto stesso di Demanio, sono cose sconosciute e incomprensibili.
Cosa sia veramente successo quando l' Italia è stata unificata, quando la dinastia Savoia ha assunto il potere regale sul nostro Paese, come è stata organizzata la tutela del patrimonio artistico nazionale, sono fatti altamente ignorati ancora oggi. Ora in questo volume la verifica della consistenza e della rilevanza del patrimonio artistico di proprietà del F.E.C. assume un significato ancora maggiore. Anche in ambito culturale, infatti, esiste una sorta di questione meridionale che fa sempre pensare a differenze abissali e incolmabili tra Nord e Sud. Ebbene studiando il volume ci si accorge che la consistenza patrimoniale del F.E.C. nel meridione d' Italia è formidabile e esaltante e si conferma allora un punto che è bene mettere in luce quando si parla del patrimonio artistico e architettonico del F.E.C.. E tale punto è l' eccellenza di tale patrimonio nell' ambito di un gigantesco patrimonio nazionale in cui le leggi vigenti e la cultura più radicata non consentono scelte qualitative, estendendosi sempre più, e giustamente, il criterio della tutela sul bene culturale in sé a prescindere dalla rilevanza, persino dalla bellezza (dato inevitabilmente ad alto tasso di soggettività), dall' influsso generato nel corso della storia.
Si nota, allora, come le chiese di proprietà del F.E.C. costituiscano sovente degli apici assoluti, delle elette emergenze nella moltitudine del nostro patrimonio artistico, costituendo tutte insieme e in tutti i luoghi d' Italia una sorta di tesoro incomparabile e prezioso nell' ambito di un insieme che di fatto rappresenta un aspetto fondamentale della ricchezza del nostro Paese.
Il presente volume, in tal senso, è molto istruttivo.
Comprende infatti tutta l' area meridionale escludendo Sicilia e Sardegna che saranno oggetto di un volume apposito, ma comprende anche l' area laziale al di fuori di Roma, che è stata argomento di un volume precedente

This article explores the emergence and significance of printed game boards in Rome at the turn of the seventeenth century. These objects constitute an important and overlooked visual and material aspect of a pervasive culture of gaming that engrossed a huge range of the populace: both the rich and the poor, men and women, the educated and the illiterate. Printed game boards not only served to entertain, but also mirrored and reified deeper social and moral concerns about gambling and leisure, a tension between the prescribed morality of the legal sanctions, decrees, and censures associated with the Counter-Reformation, and the everyday games common both in courtly leisure and play on the street and in the tavern. Visually manifesting a dual understanding of games as both ludic and mimetic, printed game boards enacted the ontology of life’s journey for early modern players, from the courtly, to the religious, to the quotidian.

This article traces the pictorial lineages of images collected in one of the two Thun-Hohenstein albums through comparative analyses of fight books produced in the German-speaking lands, and considers how the representational strategies deployed in martial treatises inflected the ways that book painters and their audiences visualized the armoured body.

The Importance of Being Anachronistic: Contemporary Aboriginal Art and Museum Reparations focuses on the role of time in contemporary art and introduces anachrony as a method for subverting the colonial archive. This publication takes as its subject Trawlwoolway artist Julie Gough’s The Lost World (Part 2) exhibition and intervention
in the Cambridge Museum of Archaeology
and Anthropology.
The Importance of Being Anachronistic is a peer-reviewed publication, and a collaboration between the journals Discipline and Third Text.

Leonardo Ricci was a scholar of Giovanni Michelucci and a friend of Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre, with whom he shared the existentialist approach to worldly things. He was a painter fascinated by the primitivism he borrowed from Schiele and Picasso, and finally, of course, he was an exceptional architect. His investigation covers all scales, from houses to community villages, to representative buildings up to the invention of macrostructures for the so called Earth-city. In every work Ricci did not follow pre- established formal rules, his aim was to forecast the basic needs of man and thus outline his architectural realizations. Ricci defined this process as “logical”: a relentless desire to find links between natural matters and to define spaces as a result of free sequences of human acts. A process
always oriented towards a tight interaction between his architecture, the individual and the community.

The present article deals with the Prince of Sansevero, Raimondo di Sangro, and legends, often linked to real happenings, which over time were superimposed on this personage and his reknowned family chapel. To a great extent his reputation was of his own making, exagerated by the imagination of the populace and amplified by newspaper articles, brief essays, and stories by Southern Italian intellectuals in the late 19th century. Capuana, Colonna di Stigliano, Di Giacomo, and Croce, who were the foremost voices of the time in the literature of the South of Italy, wrote about the Prince and his mysteries. Lured by suggestions from the place he built and dwelt in, they too contributed to a myth that still today fascinates tourists and curious visitors from all over the world.

As relações entre comunicação e artes vêm se aproximando a cada dia, estabelecendo-se novos padrões e estudos acerca da convergência arte/comunicação permitindo, dessa forma, uma ampliação nos horizontes analíticos da cibercultura. A pesquisadora Margaret Morse destaca que: the "new" abilities of cyberculture (especially their "interactive" and "telematic" capacities), have radically altered our understanding of the function of images. Only a decade ago, under the scrutiny of a "politics of representation," an image was recognized as a discursive construction which conveys situated knowledges and powers. Today, images ferry not only a politics of meaning or place, but an ever-more-tangible "aspect of agency," in which the remote control of images (via telematics or telepresence) can be used to inflict immediate and potentially deadly change on the real world. An obvious case in point is the Gulf War, widely noted for the ways in which its mediation resembled a video game. What are the ethical costs of a war in which it is images, rather than flesh and blood people, which are the primary agents of destruction? What happens to a sense of social accountability or even humanness when telematic images allow one to be removed from the consequences of one's actions? (apud SEATON, 1999, p.2). Ma ainda é bastante difícil definir os limiares da arte eletrônica; A arte há muito deixou de ser uma atividade voltada apenas para o desenvolvimento da sensibilidade, o enleite, a provocação, a discussão de pontos de vistas, passando a integral o rol das atividades que podem significativamente atuar na cosnstrução de ciberculturas e, como se pretende discutir aqui, de inclusão digital, através de sua história e do manuseio de uma série de ferramentas que podem aproximar o indivíduo (adulto ou criança) dos mecanismos específicos da computação: É difícil definirmos o que é um computador, na medida em que ele pode tomar várias aparências. Temos vários equipamentos que permitem, entrada, cálculos, armazenamento e saída de informações. Walter Hopps entered the art world during one of the most historic sociopolitical  periods in America: President Truman, without the approval of Congress, committed American troops to battle; the Vietnam War was prolonged; Senator Joseph McCarthy began his communist witch hunt; the abstract expressionist movement was in full swing; President Truman ordered the construction of hydrogen bomb; Truman signed a Peace Treaty with Japan, which officially ended WWII; Joseph Stalin died; the Iron curtain went up; segregation was ruled illegal in the U.S., Disneyland opened, Abstract Expressionism faded, Pop-art became huge, civil rights activist, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus and Water Hopps painted the art world with broad strokes--from Los Angeles to Washington and onward to Houston, Texas.
This paper is about Hopps, the artist-curator, whose contributions indispensably elevated the appreciation of modern art in America.  With insightful commentary by his widow, Caroline Huber, my objective is to shed light on the legendary Hopps who redefined the way the art world examined art and embraced his genius.

What main ideas and characteristics were associated with either the Romantic or Symbolist tendencies in 19 th-century culture? Discuss how these are apparent in two works named within this module. Romanticism emerged in the 1820s and by the 1840s it had become an established artistic practice paralleling the philosophy of the Enlightenment, scientific discovery, reason, and ideal universal rules. Self-portraits were reimagined with less formality and tended toward middle-, working-and lower-class personalities and their behaviors as they worked and relaxed. Artists wanted viewers to become more engaged with the character and mood of the scene or people in their paintings. The natural world, landscapes, and still-life were trendy. Open-air paintings were composed inherent to a 'see the world around you' attitude. Atmospheric skies became normal in landscapes. There was a fascination the gothic and new research on foreign artifacts and exotic locations crept into artwork and architecture. Watercolorists began to experiment with using the hues of their paints beyond painting concretely.

Dopo la pubblicazione del primo tomo, che raccoglie il patrimonio architettonico e artistico del Fondo Edifici di Culto di 129 luoghi di culto presenti in Piemonte, Veneto, Liguria, Emilia Romagna, Toscana, Marche, Umbria e Abruzzo, L' ERMA in collaborazione con il Ministero dell' Interno prosegue l' opera con il secondo tomo che conterrà il patrimonio artistico-culturale di Roma e del Lazio. Gli edifici di culto raccolti in questo secondo tomo sono 191 di cui 120 sul territorio laziale e 71 nella capitale. Tra i più importanti edifici a Roma ricordiamo Sant' Andrea al Quirinale, Sant' Andrea della Valle, Santa Croce in Gerusalemme, la Basilica di SS. Giovanni e Paolo al Celio, Santa Maria del Popolo, Santa Maria in Aracoeli al Campidoglio, senza però tralasciare tutti gli altri edifici di culto con i loro relativi patrimoni artistici presenti sul territorio romano e laziale.

Il Corpus Del Fondo Edifici Di Culto è una prestigiosa enciclopedia costituita da 4 volumi, di assoluto valore scientifico in cui saranno illustrati, attraverso delle schede e per mezzo di foto a colori di alta qualità, tutti gli edifici di culto facenti parte del patrimonio del Fondo Edifici di Culto del Ministero dell' Interno e tutto il patrimonio artistico-culturale in essi contenuti; il patrimonio del F.E.C., è costituito da oltre 730 edifici di culto di grandissimo pregio storico, architettonico, artistico e culturale, dislocati su tutto il territorio nazionale aperti al pubblico e concessi in uso gratuito all'Autorità Ecclesiastica ma gestiti dal Fondo Edifici di Culto, amministrato dalla Direzione Centrale per l' amministrazione del Fondo Edifici di Culto del Ministero dell' Interno. L' importanza dell' opera sarà messa in risalto dalla elegante veste editoriale dei 4 lussuosi volumi imperdibili per gli studiosi del settore ed i collezionisti.

Przysługujący widmom wywrotowy, niemalże rewolucyjny potencjał został odsunięty oraz zagubiony poprzez pozbycie się tej kontrowersyjnej kategorii z terytorium metafizyki i zbyt pośpieszne odesłanie jej do przestrzeni badań nad literaturą, sprowadzając ją jedynie do roli użytecznego, bezpiecznego narzędzia interpretacji.

Książka Andrzeja Marca odzyskuje niepokojący charakter widmontologii i ponownie wprowadza widma do myśli metafizycznej. Czym nawiedzona i przeniknięta jest tradycyjna metafizyka, co właściwie ją dręczy, nie daje spokoju oraz nieustannie podmywa jej stabilność?

Kategoria widma Derridy posłużyła Marcowi przede wszystkim do rozważań nad charakterem współczesności i przeobrażeń, jakie dokonały się w obrębie myśli ponowoczesnej. Współczesna kultura, zdaniem Marca, stała się miejscem powstawania widm, nieustannie powracających z przeszłości. Uznając, że nie jesteśmy już w stanie tworzyć utopijnych wizji przyszłości, autor stara się zdać sprawę z widmowego charakteru współczesnej kultury, analizując m. in. strategie vintage, retro, nurt no future w kulturze lat 70. czy nurt fantastyki naukowej w literaturze.

Il libro analizza le vesti liturgiche cristiane dal punto di vista storico, simbolico ed iconografico. Il testo, rigoroso e documentato, approfondisce in particolare il rapporto tra uomo e corpo, tra corpo e società, tra corpo e vestire liturgico, Il volume è diviso in due parti, di cui la seconda nello specifico presenta la storia e l'evoluzione dei singoli 'capi' dell'abbigliamento liturgico cattolico. Il testo è illustrato con disegni al tratto dell'autrice.

This thesis studies a specific relationship between matter and form which can no longer be related to stability, solidity and objectuality, as it has been traditionally interpreted. To this aim, it firstly explores the plurivocity in the concepts of 'matter' and 'artistic material'; and secondly it examines a case study about water as a material presence in contemporary art. Over the course of the study, certain issues arise, such as the problematic use of notions like form, information and memory in the specific context of the artwork .

The  methodological lines of this thesis are an alternative approach to the artwork technical and material system, this understood as a synergistic and complex structure of symbolic, technological and imaginative relations. This methodology focuses on the evolution of the technical and technological thinking in the 20th century, establishing the connection between past and current uses of media and materials. Based on the principle of transversality, this study contributes to the expansion of the Third Culture by visualizing the dialogical relationship between art, science, technology and aesthetics. Thus, its starting point is the states of water (solid, liquid, and gas) as well as the technical and conceptual operations associated with this specific material. A selection of 258 artists or working groups and more than 500 works have been gathered along diverse actional and conceptual tendencies of water in its three states.

Archeology, technological thinking, anthropology, and material imagination are the key epistemological elements used to reflect on the encounter between the so-called traditional art mediums and new media in the 20th century —or from a broader perspective, between both the deterministic-mechanistic and the systemic-cybernetic currents of thought. In this context, water provides a paradoxical and exemplary temporal connectivity.

Resumen
La presente investigación tiene por objeto definir una zona muy poco tratada dentro de la historia del arte, en la que la relación entre materia y forma deja de poder aprehenderse como un fenómeno vinculado a los sentidos de estabilidad, solidez y objetualidad tal como se ha interpretado tradicionalmente. Para ello explora la plurivocidad de los sentidos de `materia´ y `material artístico´, confrontando esta perspectiva con el estudio del agua como presencia material en el arte contemporáneo, de lo que se derivan una serie de problemáticas respecto a los conceptos de forma, información, y por extensión memoria de la obra de arte.

Paralelamente se dibujan las líneas metodológicas de la semántica material como alternativa de aproximación al sistema técnico-material de la obra de arte, entendiendo éste como una estructura sinérgica y compleja de relaciones simbólicas, tecnológicas e imaginativas. La metodología propuesta pretende incidir en la evolución del pensamiento técnico y tecnológico del siglo XX, estableciendo puntos de conexión entre el uso actual de los medios y materiales artísticos, y sus antecedentes. Partiendo de la transversalidad, esta investigación se propone en última instancia contribuir a la expansión de la tercera cultura visibilizando las relaciones dialógicas entre creación artística, ciencia, tecnología y estética. Su puesta en práctica toma como punto de partida el agua en todos sus estados y las operaciones técnico-conceptuales asociadas a este material concreto. Una selección constituida por 258 artistas o grupos de trabajo y más de quinientas obras han sido recogidas en torno a las tendencias accionales y conceptuales del agua en sus estados sólido, líquido y gaseoso.

En definitiva, arqueología y antropología del pensamiento tecnológico e imaginación material son los elementos epistemológicos clave utilizados para reflexionar acerca de las cuestiones que definen el encuentro en el siglo XX entre los medios artísticos llamados tradicionales y los new media −o en un plano más amplio entre el pensamiento determinista-mecanicista y el sistémico-cibernético−, vehiculizadas por la paradójica conectividad temporal que ofrece el agua.

Cette communication a eu lieu le 31 mars 2017, dans le cadre du séminaire doctoral d'Alexandre Gady. Elle fut l'occasion de révéler une documentation inédite permettant de porter un nouveau regard sur le projet de place Louis XVI destiné à la cité du Ponant en 1786.
