Models of Creativity & of Creative Processes

There has been little academic consideration of the life, work and ideas of the BBC radio producer Charles Parker. Where he is remembered it is for his work on the prize-winning series known as the Radio Ballads. Beginning with ‘The Ballad of John Axon’ in 1958 the series addressed the lives and work of working-class people, and was one of the first programmes to use ‘actuality’ incorporating original, spontaneous testimonies. The author values Parker’s work as an expression of the mentalités of welfare-state Britain and that wider project evinced by his colleagues and collaborators that sought to challenge the circumscribed lineaments of class, culture, history, education and language. However, an appreciation of Parker and his role in the process of democratizing the cultural sphere also
lends itself to a critique of the assumptions behind categories such as class, authenticity and experience that proved to be so useful in this moment.

A case study of selected models made by opera designer Michael
Levine demonstrates an emphasis on activation of space by the
presence of detailed miniature figures rather than by the creation
of programmatic settings. Investigation of his photographic
documentation of sequences in the production design for the
tetralogy of Der Ring des Nibelungen for the Canadian Opera
Company (2003–2006) reveals his design vocabularies for a
scenographic dramaturgy. The preliminary point of reference in
the discussion is Martin Heidegger’s conceptualization of the
‘thing’ involved in processes of perception as productive to
understanding Levine’s emphasis on the power of a
choreographic human presence. The discussion is framed by the
spatial architectonics and emphasis on models advocated by the
architectural rationalists in post-revolution Russia who sought to
develop a performative architecture with space as its material. The
discussion thus comprehends the significance of the orientation in
space as crucial to the creation of social objects as performance
and the conceptualizing of stage space as constructed public
space more widely.

"This chapter explores the nature of the film producer’s work in the context of current debates about creative labour and the UK film industry.

A prodigious amount of scholarly work (McRobbie [1999], Banks [2007], Hesmondhalgh and Baker [2011], for instance) has been devoted to exploring the nature of creative work in terms of concepts of precariousness, self-exploitation, individualization and self-actualization. The growth of such studies can understood in the context of emergent discourses of cultural policy attendant upon the establishment of the Department of Culture Media and Sport in 1997 by the (then) New Labour Government. Such discourses celebrate the creative industries as offering new forms of work and economic rewards, translated into personal and social improvements. In UK film, such positive discourses are writ large in the work and statements of UK Film Council, regional screen agencies and lately Creative England.

How then does the work of the film producer figure in conceptualizations of creative labour? What does a film producer do and how do they understand their work and its relationship with a wider structure of economic activity and indeed contemporary policy contexts that have, in part defined and authorized particular film initiatives?

This chapter builds upon several years’ engagement with the UK regional film economy (via local Producers Forums, training courses, policy consultations, work with regional film agencies), and ongoing interviews which offer evidence about the status of film producers. For instance, the work of producers is often intermittent, low-paid (or unpaid), with a major amount of effort directed at work unrelated to production that maintains an income and supports long-term production efforts, which are sometimes consolidated (or thwarted) over several years of work.

Such experiences are characteristic of the experience of those producing features with budgets large or small and pose questions about the motivations of producers, their creative role and indeed how they conceive of their personal and professional identities and indeed the nature of ‘reward’, ‘success’, creativity and the value of film itself."

In this paper we address the issue of creativity and style computation from a Natural Language Processing perspective. We introduce a computational framework for creativity analysis with two approaches, one agnostic, based on clustering, and one knowlegde-based, that exploits supervised learning and feature selection. While in the agnostic approach can reveal the uniqueness of authors in a meaningful
context, the knowledge-based approach can be exploited to extract the culturally relevant features of works and to predict social acceptance. In both the approaches it is required a great effort to define symbols to represent meaningful cues in creativity and style.

La comunicación propuesta expone una selección de ejemplos que pertenecen a contextos de situación extrema: de urgencia económica, política, peligro o desastre; que estimularon la capacidad de creación y que vertebran el trabajo iniciado en 2010 en un entorno académico de posgrado de la Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca en Madrid denominado “Emergencia Creativa”.
En la investigación transversal anotada -asistida por el software Processing- colaboran los departamentos de Proyectos, Historia, Materiales y Urbanismo; y los primeros resultados se exhibirán en la próxima Semana de la Ciencia en Madrid.
Metodológicamente elabora una base de datos que desarrolla una Línea de Tiempo del tema en cuestión desde la perspectiva de tres técnicas comunes: el proceso, la acción y el recicle como pensamiento crítico. Estos panoramas están formados por 560 entradas de texto ilustradas por un código de color e icono, 400 imágenes y 400 fuentes alojadas en la red Delicious.

This article sheds new light on the material history of G. Chr. Lichtenberg’s proverbial wit and demonstrates how the note-taking technique that he called “sudeln” aided his inventiveness. The epistemic effect of the Sudelbücher, or waste-books, lies in the interaction between conflicting modes of knowledge production. While the waste-books stand in the tradition of reformed commonplace books—notebooks intended to be discovery devices that encouraged unlikely combinations of entries—they were at the same time modeled upon strictly codified early-modern methods of notation (e.g. “learned bookkeeping”). This tension increased the waste-books’ epistemological effectiveness, turning sudeln into an experimental procedure that reliably led to “sagacious combinations of thought” and thus the production of witty ideas. In this function, sudeln informed both Lichtenberg’s own research and his pedagogy as a physics instructor. The Sudelbücher should therefore be seen not as a collection of aphorisms, but as media with an epistemic impact and intellectual tools of writing.

Dieser Beitrag beleuchtet die Materialgeschichte von G. Chr. Lichtenbergs sprichwörtlichem Witz und zeigt, wie sudeln als Notationspraxis seinen Einfallsreichtum förderte. Die epistemische Wirkung der Sudelbücher basiert auf dem Zusammenspiel verschiedener Modi der Wissensproduktion. Während die Sudelbücher in der Tradition reformierter commonplace books stehen, d.h. Notizbücher, die durch überraschende Kombinationen von Einträgen als Findwerkzeuge dienten, folgen sie zugleich streng geregelten frühmodernen Notationsmodellen (wie z. B. „gelehrte Buchhalterey“). Genau diese Spannung ließ die Sudelbücher epistemologisch effektiv werden und machte aus sudeln ein experimentelles Verfahren, das zuverlässig in „scharfsinnigen Gedankenkombinationen“ und witzigen Einfällen resultierte. In dieser Funktion hatte sudeln sowohl für Lichtenbergs Forschung als auch seine Pädagogik als Physikprofessor große Relevanz. Die Sudelbücher sollten daher nicht als Aphorismensammlung aufgefasst werden, sondern als intellektuelle Schreibwerkzeuge und Medien mit epistemischer Durchschlagskraft.

In this article, we consider the benefits and challenges of enacting creativity in the K-12 context and examine educational policy with regard to twenty-first century learning and technology. Creativity is widely considered to be a key construct for twenty-first cen-tury education. In this article, we review the literature on creativity relevant to education and technology to reveal some of the complex considerations that need to be addressed within educational policy. We then review how creativity emerges, or fails to emerge, in six national education policy contexts: Australia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Slovakia, and the U.S. We also locate the connections, or lack of, between creativity and technology within those contexts. While the discussion is limited to these nations, the implications strongly point to the need for a coherent and coordinated approach to creating greater clarity with regards to the rhetoric and reality of how creativity and technology are currently ...

In this Science-Fiction Prototyping article, I present an imaginative forward look at how artificial intelligence and virtual environments might change the nature of future education. The discussion is intended to be a somewhat speculative and thought provoking journey into what may be possible. At its root, it imagines a future time when the technological singularity has been reached, and machine intelligence and interaction is equal or surpasses that of people. I do this by means of a fictional reflection on how life might be in the future, a set of four small vignettes and a discussion of the factual research inspiring these views.

The school education in India is going through a period of serious contemplation and reflection. There are many challenges in this segment and they themselves could indicate plausible solutions. This paper makes an effort to focus on the core issues and possible solutions.

A philosophy to stimulate creativity in music education and bridge intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in senior secondary schools (to inform an 'Australian Collective Arts Curriculum' [ACAC]) Abstract This paper aims to discuss a framework and paradigm for what Fluid Pedagogy might look like in a classroom and how this method could stimulate and nurture personal creativity. Building from previous research and development of Fluid Pedagogy (Stavropoulos, 2015), I will report on the philosophical and pedagogical influences that contextualise the creative principles underlining this theory. I will then explore three simulated case studies of students in a vertical learning environment from Years 10, 11 and 12 practicing Fluid Pedagogy to study three primary units of music (Musicianship, Aural and Theory). Finally, I will briefly envision an informed Australian Collective Arts Curriculum [ACAC] by elaborating how a Professional Learning Community (PLC) model designed to develop and implement Fluid Pedagogy (Stavropoulos, 2016) could extend and inform this curriculum essentially from the summation of student creative outcomes.

Folger tarafından geliştirilen "dönüşümsel arabuluculuk modeli" ülkemizde, her sene mahkemelere taşınan yüz binlerce anlaşmazlığı, çekişmeyi ve ayrışmayı yüz yüze müzakere ederek yapıcı ve barışçıl olarak çözme kapasitesini güçlendirmek için bir fırsat ve araç olacaktır. Cezalandırıcı adalet anlayışından, onarıcı adalet anlayışına dönme çabalarına ışık tutacaktır.

Bu eser,içerdiği alternatif paradigma çerçevesinde hukuk sistemimize yeni giren arabuluculuk modelinin doğru ve amacına uygun kullanılması için de referans olacak anlamlı ve önemli bir eserdir. Buna ek olarak, anlaşmazlık çözümü üzerine çalışan hukukçulara, psikologlara, psikolojik danışmanlara, eğitimcilere, psikiyatristlere ve sosyal çalışmacılara hem kurumsal anlamda hem de somut anlaşmazlıkların ve çatışmaların yapıcı ve barışcıl yönetimi konusunda yol gösterecek temel bir başvuru kaynağı olacaktır.

Fusion Lab was a two year curatorial framework of public facing exhibitions (2013-2015) led by Denise Callender at the University of Portsmouth’s Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries (CCI) in Eldon Building in the City of Portsmouth.  The project was supported by an ACE Grants for Arts Award and HEIF funding, and successfully delivered its aims and objectives to inspire, to create impact, to offer public learning and discourse, to offer collaboration opportunities and to use language that is understood.

La presente investigación se fundamentó teóricamente, en los estudios de Guilford, De Bono y Torrance quienes afirmaban que la creatividad era una variable multifactorial de la cognición humana, que podría ser incrementada por medio de procesos de desarrollo del pensamiento creativo, específicamente lo que De Bono llamaba “pensamiento lateral”.

También fueron de gran ayuda los estudios del desarrollo social y cognitivo del
preadolescente, realizados por Piaget y Vigotsky.

El propósito principal fue determinar que la implementación de una serie de
actividades de desarrollo del pensamiento creativo colaboró en la mejoría del ambiente escolar logrando una reducción de las conductas agresivas en los niños integrantes de la muestra.

Los alcances obtenidos fueron: lograr identificar las principales conductas agresivas
y su influencia en el entorno escolar, así como lograr medir los niveles de creatividad y
elaborar un perfil sobre creatividad en alumnos de cuarto a sexto primaria de la institución y, por último, reducir la conducta agresiva y mejorar la interrelación escolar por medio de las actividades de fomento del pensamiento creativo.

Este estudio se realizó con una muestra intencional o selectiva, integrada por 30
alumnos de cuarto, quinto y sexto grado de nivel primario, con rangos de edad que oscilaron entre los 10 y los 14 años, y que presentaban conducta agresiva de forma reiterada.


La investigación y las actividades se realizaron durante el ciclo escolar 2013, específicamente en los meses de agosto a octubre.


Las técnicas de recopilación de datos utilizadas fueron: observaciones dirigidas,
entrevista a maestros, investigación bibliográfica, documental y análisis estadístico
descriptivo.

Los instrumentos utilizados fueron una “Guía de observación directa de la
agresividad” diseñada por los autores de la investigación y la Psicóloga de la institución.


Además del “Test de la creatividad” de José María Martínez Beltrán; un test de desempeño gráfico-verbal en el que se presenta una serie de 5 subtests (C1, C2, C3, C4, C5) que miden la creatividad de tipo: Lúdico-Instrumental, Lógica, Figurativa-Espacial, Instrumental, y Conceptual Ideológica


La investigación estableció una relación de niveles medianos de capacidad de
generación del pensamiento creativo con la presencia constante de conducta agresiva, como respuesta generada por el individuo ante el estímulo externo, aprendida en un contexto familiar y escolar de frustración y disciplina hostil.

Tüm yaşamımız duygu ve düşüncelerimiz tarafından yönetilmektedir. Çoğumuz ağırlıkla gerçeğin farkına varmadan yaşadığımızdan düşünce becerilerimizi geliştirmeyi önemsemeyiz. Ancak düşünme, eğitim, psikoloji ve daha birçok alandaki bilim insanının üzerinde çalıştığı ve geliştirmeyi hedefledikleri beceriler arasındandır. We reflect the processes and products of the Company Mosaico of Contemporary Dance, developed under the framework of "in-ex-corporation"-connections generated in the between of internal/external, body/environment, I/other. We understand theory and practice are inseparable dimensions, and identify our work as 'browns' ('morenos)', as we cross different artistic languages (dance, performance, theater, literature, music, visual arts, technology) and transcend genres. Mosaic bodies create, make, and appreciate art by making complex diverse issues such as political, artistic, social, historical and philosophical. We create dance to cause strangeness, to transform, not to stiffen, not to freeze or to stop the flow of the imagination. We perceive our journey as in a quicksand: we interpose displacements and pauses to deepen questions, always discovering different pretexts, texts, contexts, to continue to imagine, create, move and be moved.

Refletimos processos e produtos da Cia. Mosaico de Dança Contemporânea, desenvolvidos a partir do cruzamento de linguagens artísticas e que tem como prisma a "in-ex-corporação"-conexões geradas no entre interno/externo, corpo/ambiente, eu/outro, e no entendimento que teoria e prática são indissociáveis. Identificamos nossos trabalhos como 'morenos', pois estabelecemos interfaces entre diversas linguagens artísticas (dança, performance, teatro, literatura, música, artes visuais, tecnologia) e transcendemos gêneros. Corpos mosaicos criam, fazem e assistem arte complexificando questões diversas tais como as políticas, artísticas, sociais, históricas e filosóficas. Criamos obras de dança para provocar estranhamentos, para transformar, para não enrijecer, para não congelar ou brecar o fluxo da imaginação. Percebemos nosso percurso como numa areia movediça: intercalamos deslocamentos e pausas para aprofundar questionamentos, descobrindo sempre diferentes pretextos, textos, contextos, para continuar a imaginar, criar, mover e sermos movidos. The research in this paper is based on a theoretical and practical approach to the concept of Design Thinking, its background, characteristics, process models and toolkit. Alongside the literature review, a qualitative analysis of five well-known models of the Design Thinking process and of ten of the most applied DT tools is made. The paper provides a critical approach to Design Thinking to help the innovation management community to understand better the potential the concept has for implementing and developing creative thinking in business, and in society in general. By describing in a synthetic way the evolution and key elements of the DT concept and its toolkit, the study contributes to the current literature in innovation management, and also provides practical advice.

Se revisan en base a los estudios de psicología social recientes las ocho creencias compartidas, mitos modernos o representaciones sociales sobre la creatividad más relevantes, como que la creatividad se basa en la generación de ideas, la libertad, autonomía y espontaneidad, es típica de niños y menos frecuente en los viejos, se basa en la inspiración, intuición, pensamiento divergente, emociones positivas y actividades de ocio. Se examina su prevalencia, su isomorfismo con teorías científicas, así como la evidencia y teorías que las contradicen. Se discute sus implicaciones para la aceptación de programas de formación en creatividad.

Shared beliefs, modern myths or social representations about creativity are reviewed based on recent social psychology studies, like the belief that creativity is based on the generation of ideas, freedom, autonomy and spontaneity, is typical of children and less frequent in the old, it is based on inspiration, intuition, divergent thinking, positive emotions and leisure activities. Its prevalence, its isomorphism with scientific theories are examined, as well as the evidence and theories that contradict them. Its implications for the acceptance of creativity training programs are discussed.

It is not possible to speak of a single systems approach. There are rather of a number of systems approaches, each loosely drawing on different aspects of a family composed mainly of, general system theory, cybernetics, information theory, chaos theory, and complexity theory. Systems approaches have been used in most of the social sciences, particularly sociology and management, but their use has extended into the arts and humanities.Creativity researchers have used systems approaches drawing on very different sources and in very different ways. The main focus has been to highlight creativity as a phenomenon that occurs in the context of multiple systems, and therefore involves a network of interactions.

Can academia be a place where engage our creativity and experience the joy of inquiry?
I reflect on my educational experiences as a starting point for an exploration of the way that education can be a joyful process if framed as an opportunity for what I call "creative inquiry." I outline some dimensions of an attitude of creative inquiry, focusing on Wonder, Passion, Hope, and Conviviality. I then explore a number of different metaphors for inquiry and the way they can frame our attitude and evoke different moods.
