Gait recognition is a technique that identifies or verifies people based upon their walking patterns. Smartwatches, which contain an accelerometer and gyroscope have recently been used to implement gait-based biometrics. However, this prior work relied upon data from single sessions for both training and testing, which is not realistic and can lead to overly optimistic performance results. This paper aims to remedy some of these problems by training and evaluating a smartwatch-based biometric system on data obtained from different days. Also, it proposes an advanced feature selection approach to identify optimal features for each user. Two experiments are presented under three different scenarios: Same-Day, Mixed-Day, and Cross-Day. Competitive results were achieved (best EERs of 0.13% and 3.12% by using the Same day data for accelerometer and gyroscope respectively and 0.69% and 7.97% for the same sensors under the Cross-Day evaluation. The results show that the technology is sufficiently capable and the signals captured sufficiently discriminative to be useful in performing gait recognition.

This is the RAW DATA for a neural network price prediction system to be utilized for the prediction of stock prices on US markets.  To date the performances are doing well.

An offline cursive handwriting recognition system, based on hybrid of Neural Networks (NN) and Hidden Markov Models (HMM), is described in this paper. Applying SegRec principle, the recognizer does not make hard decision at the character segmentation process. Instead, it delays the character segmentation to the recognition stage by generating a segmentation graph that describes all possible ways to segment a word into letters. To recognize a word, the NN computes the observation probabilities for each segmentation candidates (SCs) in the segmentation graph. Then, using concatenated letter-HMMs, a likelihood is computed for each word in the lexicon by multiplying the probabilities over the best paths through the graph. Abstract: This paper proves that non-convex quadratically constrained quadratic programs have an exact semidefinite relaxation when their underlying graph is acyclic, provided the constraint set satisfies a certain technical condition. When the condition is not satisfied, we propose a heuristic to obtain a feasible point starting from a solution of the relaxed problem. These methods are then demonstrated to provide exact solutions to a richer class of optimal power flow problems than previously solved.

In this study an artificial neural network (ANN) model was developed to predict the oxidation behavior of magnesia graphite composites. After mechanism evaluation in different conditions, the kinetic parameters such as effective diffusion coefficient and diffusion activation energy of oxidation were calculated from ANN predicted results at different graphite content. The obtained mechanism and kinetic parameters were compared with experimental data.First of all, the reliability of the model was checked with different available data. It was found that the model results were in good agreement with experimental data prediction.The results showed that the main mechanism of oxidation was pore diffusion and effective diffusion coefficient as well as diffusion activation energy were comparable with previous works.Effective diffusion coefficient and diffusion activation energy which were calculated versus graphite content are in good agreement with experimental values.

In this paper, we investigate the effectiveness of a financial time-series forecasting strategy which exploits the mul- tiresolution property of the wavelet transform. A financial series is decomposed into an over complete, shift invariant scale-related representation. In transform space, each individual wavelet series is modeled by a separate multilayer perceptron (MLP). To better utilize the detailed information in the lower scales of wavelet coef- ficients (high frequencies) and general (trend) information in the higher scales of wavelet coefficients (low frequencies), we applied the Bayesian method of automatic relevance determination (ARD) to choose short past windows (short-term history) for the inputs to the MLPs at lower scales and long past windows (long-term history) at higher scales. Cardiac Electrical Activity is commonly distributed into three dimensions of Cardiac Tissue (Myocardium) and evolves with duration of time. The indicator of heart diseases can occur randomly at any time of a day. Heart rate, conduction and each electrical activity during cardiac cycle should be monitor non-invasively for the assessment of "Action Potential" (regular) and "Arrhythmia" (irregular) rhythms. Many heart diseases can easily be examined through Automata model like Cellular Automata concepts. This paper deals with the different states of cardiac rhythms using cellular automata with the comparison of neural network also provides fast and highly effective stimulation for the contraction of cardiac muscles on the Atria in the result of genesis of electrical spark or wave. The specific formulated model named as "States of automaton Proposed Model for CEA (Cardiac Electrical Activity)" by using Cellular Automata Methodology is commonly shows the three states of cardiac tissues conduction phenomena (i) Resting (Relax and Excitable state), (ii) ARP (Excited but Absolutely refractory Phase i.e. Excited but not able to excite neighboring cells) (iii) RRP (Excited but Relatively Refractory Phase i.e. Excited and able to excite neighboring cells). This paper shows the application of Wang’s Recurrent Neural Network with the 'Winner Takes All' (WTA) principle in a soft version to solve the Traveling Salesman Problem. In soft WTA principle the winner neuron is updated at each iteration with part of the value of each competing neuron and some comparisons with the hard WTA are made in this work with instances of the TSPLIB (Traveling Salesman Problem Library). The results show that the soft WTA guarantees equal or better results than the hard WTA in most of the problems tested.

Colour is the first attribute subject to consumer perception in determining food quality and, in many cases, this is the only possible mean to qualify product at purchase. For this reason, the description of colour by analytical methods is fundamental in food processing control. Computer vision systems acquire RGB data which are device-dependent and sensitive to the different lightning. Therefore, they are not directly useful for colour evaluation to mimic human vision. On the contrary, traditional colorimeters, which adopt CIELab coordinates, work in human-oriented colour space where euclidean distance between two different colours (∆E) is well related to the difference perceived by human sight. Nevertheless, vision systems have many advantages as the capability of acquiring larger areas of the food surface and the easiness of implementation in automated plants at low costs. Neural networks, trained on a set of selected colour samples, can approximate RGB to L*a*b* relationships to characterise the colour of food samples under test. The aim of this paper is to present a rapid method based on neural networks for the calibration of a CCD (Charge-Coupled Device) camera colour acquisition system to obtain reliable L*a* b* information. Preliminary results concerning the influence of the composition of the training test and the camera settings (aperture and time of exposure) on the reliability and accuracy of the colour measurement system are also discussed.

In today's world women safety is one of the most important issues to be addressed in our country. When a women needs urgent help at the time of harassment or molestation, proper reachability is not present for them. Apart from being aware about the significance of women's safety, it is essential that they are provided with protection during those crucial times. The earlier existing system are helpful in detecting the women's location after the crime has been committed. In this project we will be using the women's handbag in which we will be fixing camera lenses and which will be carried anywhere they go. Whenever she comes in contact with any person outside, an image of that person is taken and the activities of the person can be monitored continuously. If the person behaves normally the image can be of no use and can be deleted. But if the activities of the person varies resulting in any harmful action then our system will detect it and process the captured image and it will send to the police and family members with GPS location tracked from IP address. Thus our project helps in saving the life of a women and safeguarding her in the present situation.

One of the main tasks in structural health monitoring process is to create reliable algorithms that are capable of translating the measured response into meaningful information reflecting the actual condition of the monitored structure. The authors have recently introduced a novel unsupervised vibration-based damage detection algorithm that utilizes self-organizing maps to quantify structural damage and assess the overall condition of structures. Previously, this algorithm had been tested using the experimental data of Phase II Experimental Benchmark Problem of Structural Health Monitoring, introduced by the IASC (International Association for Structural Control) and ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers). In this paper, the ability of this algorithm to quantify structural damage is tested analytically using an experimentally validated finite element model of a laboratory structure constructed at Qatar University.

Lots of studies worldwide have been carried out to check out the prevalence of Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) in human populations. Spatial data analysis and clustering detection is a vital process in HCV monitoring to discover the area of high risk and to help involved decision makers to draw hypotheses about the cause of disease. Egypt is declared as one of the countries having the highest prevalence rate of HCV worldwide. The anomaly of the HCV infection's distribution in Egypt allowed several researches to identify the reasons that contributed to such widespread of HCV in this country. One way that can help in identification of areas with highest diseases is to give a detailed knowledge about the geographical distribution of HCV in Egypt. To achieve that goal, Data mining analytical tools integrated with GIS can help to visualize the distribution. Thus, the main propose of this paper is to present a spatial distribution of HCV in Egypt using case data obtained from the Egyptian health institute National Hepatology Tropical Medicine Research Institute (NHTMR). The visualization of the spatial analysis distribution by means of GIS allows us to investigate statistical results that are easily interpreted by non-experts.
