This paper describes the analysis of L-band radiometric measurement data gathered with the synthetic aperture radiometer HUT-2D during several ground-based and airborne measurement campaigns. The radiometric data are analyzed from the instrument's performance point of view, aiming to verify the theoretical performance of an instrument of this kind and to assess the performance of the HUT-2D radiometer system in particular. The data sets considered for the study consist of measurements of well-known natural targets, such as cosmic background radiation, and measurements of pure water scenes, the brightness temperature of which is possible to model based on in situ measurements. We define four figures of merit, which are applicable for synthetic aperture radiometers. These are radiometric resolution, image bias, pixel-to-pixel random error, and temporal stability. Then, we use the selected data sets to assess these in the case of HUT-2D. The experimental results are discussed and compared to the theoretical values, where applicable. Also, we discuss possibilities to improve the presented performance. The main results of this paper are the consolidated performance parameters of the HUT-2D instrument. We study and discuss the properties of the error components related to the technology in a general level, and study the scalability of the errors as a function of the measured targets. In particular, the stability of the direction-dependent error component is pointed out, and a mitigation guideline is proposed.

The current museographical approach seems to go towards a form of interdisciplinarity, which leverages the encounter between visual and performing arts. From the Tate Gallery in London to the Palais de Tokyo in Paris, this dialogue not only gives rise to aesthetic experiences but also defines new forms of exhibitions: choreographed exhibitions. Within a migration from the black box to the white cube, the theatrical body becomes a work of art, through a process of objectivation. Likewise, the exhibition space turns into a hybrid place of creation. Through a kind of ontological negotiation between different art languages, the beholder is thus called into question: his participation is choreographed, as well as the very act of observation.

This critical essay describes and demonstrates the uses and unique contributions of performative writing as a form of inquiry into the materialities and mobilities of sociocultural communicative phenom- ena. Embracing an Anzaldu an approach, the author utilizes Mesoamerican Aztec and Chicanx history, iconography, and mythos to argue for an ontological reimaging of where research should begin and end. As a methodological intervention, this article chal- lenges traditional impulses regarding where knowledge generation occurs, which knowledges are valid, and who counts as a valuable knowledge producer. By shifting genres, breaking grammatical rules, and creatively constructing poetics and rhythm (flor y canto), this “flight of the imagination” focuses on what Chicana, Latina, and indi- genous scholars have termed “fleshing the spirit” or “spiriting the flesh.” By embracing the soul work and spirituality of writing, this piece offers an art-based approach to methodological inquiry that functions as a sharp critique of the White capitalist cisheteropatriar- chal structure of higher education that maintains status quo under- standings of knowledge. When rerouting our methodological impulses toward a critical and decolonial telos and embracing the soul and spirit of performative writing, I argue that our first move must be to make an ontological shift in how we see the world and our place in it—we must begin and end with “theories in the flesh.”

The avantgard theatre of 1900 has changed completely the theatrical style,
counterposing the concepts of representation, the mise-en-scene and the
centrality of the literary text.
According to that, the concept of acting has changed deeply. New scenic
conditions didn't consider as important the problems connected with acting
a specific character and two new phenomena were born such as the change
of position of acting and the improvement of it.
The former considers the work of the actor as a physical action during the
development of the stories, not contemplating his interpretation of a
specific character. The latter is referred to the insertion of non-theatrical
phenomena in the world of acting such as dance, happening and
performance.
The main point of these procedures is the centrality of the presence,
considered as the most important thing concerning the actors.

What is ethnomusicology? What is it that ethnomusicologists do? In which ways are ethnomusicologists initiated into the musical culture that they study? How do musical performance and experience help us understand a musical culture? 

This book presents in a concise and intelligible manner issues that matter to both specialists (ethnomusicologists, anthropologists, musicologists and musicians) and the wider music-loving readership. At the same time, the book offers an overview of the history of ethnomusicology and its key theoretical and methodological concerns, and reveals ethnomusicology as a dynamic field of study which is distinguished by its highly interdisciplinary character.

In ‘¿Género ínfimo?: el cuplé y la cupletista como desafío’, Pepa Anastasio focuses on the relation of women to the production of both popular and mass culture by looking to the female singers of the cuple´, in order to understand the role of this increasingly commercialized musical form as one means for women to enter the public sphere. Studying the lives of the cuple´ performers, their location in the music halls of Spain’s main urban areas, and normative practices in music and literature, Anastasio argues for a complex reading of popular song as a subversive practice that because, not in spite, of its supposedly frivolous character and apparent compliance with a male entertainment system, offered women a vehicle for economic and artistic self-empowerment. Paying special attention to the performance of cuple´ in Barcelona in the early twentieth century, Anastasio addresses the way in which this gendered form of communication not only countered normative sexual expectations, but also established notions of what type of cultural manifestations should be representative of the nation (in this case Catalonia).

El objetivo principal de este libro de investigación es determinar las buenas prácticas de gobierno corporativo de las Empresas Familiares (EF) colombianas en sus dimensiones de familia, propiedad y empresa, y
establecer cómo su implementación impacta en el desempeño económico (financiero y operativo) y en el desempeño familiar (preservación de la riqueza socioemocional). Tomando como base las premisas de la Teoría del Stewardship se definió un modelo conceptual y se plantearon unas proposiciones iniciales, utilizando la metodología de estudio de casos. Para ello se desarrollaron cuatro casos de empresas colombianas de diferentes sectores económicos y de segunda generación. El análisis se realizó a partir de una comparación entre el caso que cumple mayoritariamente con la implementación de las buenas prácticas de gobierno corporativo y el caso que cumple en menor medida con ellas, y de esta manera se procedió a validar
las catorce (14) proposiciones planteadas, lo cual permitió definir un nuevo modelo donde se identificó que las prácticas de gobierno corporativo tienen una relación indirecta con los resultados empresariales, contrario a lo planteado en el modelo inicial. Finalmente, los hallazgos de este estudio evidencian que el contar o no, con
buenas prácticas de gobierno corporativo en cada una de las dimensiones de la EF, no es un indicador fiable y que tenga una relación directa con los resultados empresariales. Es decir, el no contar con buenas prácticas de gobierno corporativo no es obstáculo para que la empresa sea exitosa; la evidencia muestra que existen unos factores que pueden sustituir este mecanismo, tales como la unión, la  transparencia y la honestidad como pilares fundamentales para cimentar las relaciones entre los miembros de la familia y familia-empresa.

En el año 1889 se comercializaron en EEUU los primeros cilindros de cera que contenían grabaciones musicales. Estas grabaciones podían escucharse con auriculares de tubo mediante el fonógrafo de Edison en salones fonográficos y otros espacios urbanos ubicados en las zonas de ocio de numerosas ciudades del país. Sin embargo, fue a partir de 1896 cuando estos reproductores musicales comenzaron a tener un uso doméstico. Aprovechando la presencia de artistas españoles en el continente americano, la National Phonograph Company y la Columbia Phonograph Company realizaron numerosas grabaciones que contienen música extraída de la zarzuela, el género chico,  la canción de salón y el folclore regional.
Con el título De cera y Goma Laca. La producción de música española en la industria fonográfica estadounidense (1896-1914), Kiko Mora, profesor de semiótica audiovisual de la Universidad de Alicante, elabora un estudio preliminar, con entronque cuantitativo e historiográfico, de la producción musical española de carácter comercial en la primera mitad de su etapa acústica en los Estados Unidos de América.
¿Cuál fue el volumen total de producción musical y cuáles fueron los años más relevantes? ¿En qué ciudades se grabaron las piezas musicales y cuáles fueron sus contextos de producción? ¿Quiénes fueron los artistas y los compositores españoles más prolíficos? ¿Qué géneros y piezas musicales fueron los predominantes? Este libro ofrece respuestas a estas preguntas y abre un nuevo itinerario para otros estudios relacionados con la presencia de la música española y su interacción con otras músicas en los inicios de la industria discográfica más más influyente del siglo XX.

Pakistan is a developing country with scarcity
of HRM research. An ineffective and maladaptation of
strategic HRM practices potentially reduce the manufacturing
performance in Karachi. This study investigates the
impact of eight strategic human resource management
practices on the four competitive priorities (i.e., cost,
quality, delivery and flexibility) of the manufacturing performance when controlled for information sharing and
relationship with employees. A sample of 182 usable survey
questionnaires is collected from 90 organizations of 15
manufacturing sectors based in Karachi. The method of
exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to
assess the reliability and validity of the measurement
model. The structural equation modeling method was then
applied to examine the theoretical framework. The results
of the structural model show that all of the eight strategic
HRM practices collectively demonstrate a very good model
fit between the theory and the sample drawn however, both
performance appraisal and employment security have been
found statistically significant to predict these four priorities
in isolation too. The study validates the theory of the
integration between HRM practices and manufacturing
operations, and investment perspective of strategic HRM,
in particular. The contribution of this study is the construction
of structural and measurement models of strategic
HRM practices and the four chosen competitive
priorities that could facilitate future research on human
resource management. It also highlights important implications
for HR managers in developing countries such as
Pakistan.

El libro contiene propuestas académicas y gráficas, en su conjunto da cuenta de una amplia gama de puntos relacionados con la antropología del arte: sus bases, trayectoria, situación actual y nuevos senderos para su continuación.

Esta tese investiga a natureza da experiência estética contemporânea e propõe uma constelação de conceitos a fim de direcionar a abordagem filosófica da arte para uma perspectiva aberta ao contingente, ao jogo, ao acontecimento, à performance, à vivência sensorial e ao prazer epifânico.
No lugar de uma Estética que se concentra sobre as noções de obra de arte, mundo da arte, ficção ou que acredita que o papel da arte contemporânea é colocar reiteradamente a pergunta “isso é arte?” e “por que isso é arte?”, defendo a primazia da experiência estética enquanto vivência [Erlebnis], engajamento do corpo e como tônus da presença. Discutindo os conceitos de performance de Paul Zumthor e de presença de Hans Ulrich Gumbrecht, relaciono-os a inúmeros exemplos de arte contemporânea, de John Cage (1952) a Marina Abramovic (2014), propondo que a experiência aconteça menos como apreensão de um sentido estável e mais como uma epifania, como uma forma contingente, como um prazer efêmero e incomunicável. Dos escritos sobre presença de Gumbrecht, herdamos a importância da Gelassenheit de Heidegger para a fundação de um tônus da presença: um estar disponível, relaxado e com os sentidos em vigília, para o aqui agora de uma presença.
Numa época em que vivemos a fissura do tempo cronólogico histórico, em que emerge uma cronofobia e a sensação de um eterno agora e um presente amplo, o tônus da presença chama a atenção para uma experiência estética mais corporal e espacial, mais entregue ao presente.

Επιχειρείται μια φαινομενολογική προσέγγιση της νύχτας στην ελληνική δραματουργία, από τη μεταπολίτευση και μετά. Η νύχτα είναι και λειτουργεί ενδοκειμενικά ως μία αναπαράσταση, δηλαδή ως μία ελλιπής ή και παραπειστική επανάληψη μιας ελικοειδούς και δυσπρόσιτης πραγματικότητας, ως μία επανάληψη που ενεργοποιεί κατά το μάλλον ή ήττον τις μεταφορικές δυνάμεις της γλώσσας, παράγοντας, ως εκ τούτου, νοητικά σχήματα ασταθή, αμφίβολα και αμφίσημα. Το μελέτημα δεν εστιάζει στις τυπικές χρονικές σημάνσεις της νύχτας, εκεί δηλαδή όπου μια σκηνική οδηγία μας πληροφορεί ότι απλώς είναι νύχτα, αλλά στα «γεγονότα» που λαμβάνουν χώρα κατά τη διάρκεια αυτής της νύχτας και, σε αρκετές περιπτώσεις, στα γεγονότα γενικότερα που θα μπορούσαν να χαρακτηριστούν ως «νυχτερινά». Άρα, το ζήτημα μετακυλύεται από τη χρονική σήμανση στο περιεχόμενο της νύχτας, σε αυτό που θα μπορούσε να είναι νυχτερινό χωρίς απαραίτητα να λαμβάνει χώρα τη νύχτα, σε αυτό που είναι «σκοτεινό», ανοίκειο ή παραβατικό. Η νύχτα είναι το σύνορο του οριοθετημένου και του απεριόριστου, της λογικής και της φαντασίας, του φυσιολογικού και του τερατώδους, είναι η οριακή εκείνη περιοχή όπου ο άνθρωπος μπορεί να σταθεί έχοντας στη μία πλευρά του το οικείο περιβάλλον της «κατοικίας» του, (που αποτελείται λ.χ. από υιοθετημένες στάσεις και συμπεριφορές, από αυτονόητες προϋποθέσεις και κοινόχρηστες έννοιες), και στην άλλη, όλους εκείνους τους ακατοίκητους τόπους που αγνοεί, παραβλέπει ή απωθεί.

Botanical Drift explores the hermeneutics, historicization, semiotics, and symbiosis of plant diversification, species cultivation, and destruction—past and present, extant and extinct—around the globe. Plant histories are explored as commodities and colonial as well as decolonial devices by significant and diverse feminist, art-historical, and anthropological voices—from Germaine Greer to herman de vries—bringing new perspectives through photo-essays, fiction, performance, and interventions in ecological, film, and translation archives. Reflecting on experimental ecology—the undiscovered, underestimated, and undesired non-European flora and fauna—it challenges perception and inspires potentialities to bring new understandings of the undergrowth of the Kew Gardens botany collection.

It seems logical that performance is maximized when a business produces a creative marketing strategy and achieves marketing strategy implementation effectiveness. However, cultural tensions and resource competition may make it difficult, or impossible, to achieve both. Contingency theory suggests that market and/or firm level influences may exist that make one or the other more important. Thus, it is important for researchers to investigate those conditions so that we can provide managers with guidance regarding where to allocate their resources. The study reported in this article assesses the impact that environmental conditions and business unit strategy have on the relative importance of marketing strategy creativity and marketing strategy implementation effectiveness. We discuss implications for managers and scholars.

Bringing together interdisciplinary leaders in methodology and arts-based research (ABR), this comprehensive handbook explores the synergies between artistic and research practices and addresses issues in designing, implementing, evaluating, and publishing ABR studies. The essay explores how silence represents a «feminine language» that communicates through a non-uttered voice. The analysis of silence is here conducted in performance art practice by focussing on the work of Guatemalan artist Regina José Galindo: by using her works, the essay shows how the artist bears witness to trauma and to gender-related violence. This investigation approaches silent performance as capable of articulating and triggering both ethical and political considerations.

Performance at Tate explores the history of performance art at Tate from the 1960s to 2016. Arising from a two-year AHRC-funded research project, this online publication offers a new appraisal of the place of performance art and performativity in the museum through essays and case studies on individual artworks and events. It also publishes for the first time audio, films and videos, photographs, museum documents and reviews drawn from Tate’s Archive.

This study aims to establish the impact M&E can have on social enterprise performance in Nairobi County. The study was informed by the resource dependency theory. The study used a descriptive research design. This study targeted a total population of 132 social enterprises located in Nairobi County and employed the simple random sampling technique to achieve a representative sample of 103 social enterprises. The study used questionnaires to collect data from respondents. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was employed to generate insights on the problem under consideration. The study revealed that use M&E frameworks provide a bigger picture on the building blocks required driving the social enterprise's strategy and the pathway to achieve the desired results. The study recommended that it is critical for social enterprises to train the top leadership on M&E and allocate funds for training of staff in M &E process. Finally, social enterprises need to ensure that there is the dissemination of information to demonstrate accountability and earn client loyalty

We investigate the issues involved in developing a scalable World Wide Web (WWW) server on a cluster of workstations and parallel machines. The objective is to strengthen the processing capabilities of such a server by utilizing the power of multicomputers to match huge demands in simultaneous access requests from the Internet. We have implemented a system called SWEB on a distributed memory machine, the Meiko CS-2, and networked workstations. The scheduling component of the system actively monitors the usages of CPU, I/O channels and the interconnection network to effectively distribute HTTP requests across processing units to exploit task and I/O parallelism. We present the experimental results on the performance of this system

Lesson observations are one of the most hotly contested interventions to affect teachers over the last two decades. Yet surprisingly there has been very little empirical research carried out on this important area of practice. This talk draws on findings from the largest and most extensive research study in the English education system to date into the use and impact of lesson observation on the professional lives of staff working in the Further Education (FE) sector. In discussing the impact of differing models of observation on improvements in teaching and learning and teachers’ work, the views of thousands of FE staff working in a wide range of contexts and institutions will be explored.  As a starting point, the talk will seek to address the following questions:

•What do we know about current approaches to lesson observation?
•How have we got to where we are now?
•What do FE practitioners think about current approaches to lesson observation?
•How might the education sector as a whole make best use of this important intervention in the future?
•What needs to change in order for this to happen?

In the humid and sub-humid areas, agricultural production is largely rain fed and this needs to be urgently supplemented by irrigation practice if the country is to meet its food demand. A two years study was carried out at the experimental site of the Institute of Agricultural Technology and Biosystems Engineering, Johan Heinrich von Thünen Institute (vTI), Braunschweig, Germany to compare performance of maize crop for silage production using three different irrigation systems; rain fed, drip and rain-gun sprinkler. Growth parameters such as plant height, stem diameter were measured. The total yields of silage were obtained for all treatments at the harvesting. The experimental results reveal that total yields obtained from different treatments were 25.76, 24.23 and 9.30 Mg ha -1 in drip, rain-gun and rain fed irrigated maize, respectively. The results also showed that the water use efficiency reached 11.01 kg m -3 for drip irrigation in while it was 8.84 kg m -3 for rain-gun syste...
