Performance Analysis

This work evaluates the performance of Consumed-Energy-Type-Aware Routing (CETAR) which incorporates the amount of energy consumed per type of operation for routing decision to extend the lifetime of the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). CETAR makes routing decision using statistics of the energy consumed for each type of node activities including sensing, data processing, data transmission as a source node, and routing operations. In particular, CETAR encourages a node which seldom plays a role of source node as a routing node to preserve the energy of active source nodes to prolong the functionality of the WSNs. Extensive simulation study demonstrates that the lifetime of the Geographic and Energy Aware Routing (GEAR) can be significantly extended with CETAR. With its adaptability to deployed sensor node behaviors, the significance
of CETAR to extend the lifetime of WSNs is clear.

In his keynote address, ‘Hearing the Nations in Chopin’, Jim Samson reflected on the three key ingredients of musical nationalism: agendas, musical materials, and appropriations. These three areas do not only bear relevance for Chopin reception and nineteenth-century European nationalism, but also in the context of the conference as a whole effectively frame the broader themes of nationalism in music which emerged from this three-day international gathering. My paper is more closely allied to the categories of ‘musical materials’ and their ‘appropriation’ in relation to the expression of Norwegian national cultural identity in the performance of Edvard Grieg’s later piano music. Focusing predominantly on the Slåtter, op. 72, I examine the interplay between the two aforementioned categories in recent (re)constructions of cultural identity through an empirical performance-analytical study of two pieces. This paper develops and extends my research on the performance practice of this repertoire. Building on both existing and new empirical findings, I investigate experiential and phenomenological aspects of rhythmic gesture in the musical performance of this repertoire, and the effect these have for the cultural performance of an alleged authentic Norwegian folk identity. I conclude by reflecting on the performativity of rhythmic gesture as a material of national-cultural identity.

The essential services such as banking, transportation, medicine, education and defense are being progressively replaced by cheaper and more efficient Internet-based web applications. Therefore, the availability of Web services is very critical for the socio-economic growth of the society. Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks pose an immense threat to the availability of these services. The services are severely degraded and hence lot of business loses are incurred due to these attacks. To objectively evaluate DDoS attack's impact, its severity and the effectiveness of a potential defense, we need precise, quantitative and comprehensive DDoS impact metrics that are applicable to web services. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyze impact of DDoS attacks on the Web services. The experiments are conducted in NS-2. The attack traffic is mixed with legitimate traffic at different strengths and impact of DDoS attacks are measured in terms of throughput, response time, ratio of average serve to request rate, percentage link utilization, and normal packet survival ratio (NPSR). electronic document is a "live" template. The phenomena of machine failures, defects, multiple rework loops, etc., results in much difficulty in modeling rework systems, and therefore the performance analysis of such systems has been investigated limitedly in the past. We propose an analytical method for the performance evaluation of rework systems with unreliable machines and finite buffers. To characterize the rework flow in the system, a new 3M1B (three-machine and one-buffer) Markov model is first presented. Unlike previous models, it is capable of representing multiple rework loops, and the rework fraction of each loop is calculated based on the quality of material flow in the system. A decomposition method is then developed for multistage rework systems using the proposed 3M1B model as one of the building blocks. The experimental results demonstrate that the decomposition method provides accurate estimates of performance measures such as throughput and Work-In-Process (WIP). We have applied this method to several problems, such as the determination of the optimal inspection location and the identification of bottleneck machines in rework systems.► We propose an analytical model for manufacturing systems with multiple rework loops. ► We solve problems such as inspection allocation and bottleneck identification. ► Bottlenecks of rework systems migrate differently compared to systems without rework. ► We propose a continuous improvement strategy in the paper.
