Transportation systems are complex and dynamic systems which are influenced by the advancement of economy, society, environment and technology. The application of novel solutions in vehicle and information technologies and the need for sustainability result in significant changes that alter travellers’ behaviours, too. In this book, the concepts, correspondences, technologies, fields of application and further development directions related to passenger transportation systems, travel modes and operation are examined. Since the passenger transportation system is transforming more and more into a special automated information system, the book deals with the modelling methods of complex information systems and the application of models related to transportation. We present, evaluate and compare novel travel modes and solutions and give a realistic scenario for the upcoming changes and opportunities. This book is the result of our continuous research. Primarily, we synthesize the long-standing knowledge that is the basic requirement of a master course (MSc). Hence, we use a high level of abstraction. We consider it important that MSc students realize the logical correspondences focusing on systems and processes, building on the knowledge they acquired previously, during their BSc courses. Thus, the graduates can take a significant part in the operational management, as well as the planning, research, development and innovation of complex systems.

Abu Gharadig Field lies in the central portion of Abu Gharadig Basin of the northern part of the Western Desert of Egypt, about 256 km west of Cairo. Abu Gharadig Basin is considered as an E-W trending intracratonic basin. The Upper Bahariya Member is a clayey reservoir and represents one of the Late Cretaceous units. There is a need for identifying whether the petrophysical parameters of this member are related to the facies changes or the present structures. Therefore, detailed structural and petrophysical studies are required. The structural configuration of the Upper Bahariya Member is studied in the present case and the results of this study will form the basis for future petrophysical studies. The present study includes the delineation of the main structural elements of the studied member within the study area. The aim of the present study was achieved through building a 3D structural model using Petrel™ Schlumberger Modeling software by integrating twenty 2D seismic sections with four digital well logs and a check-shot survey. The interpretation of the resulted model shows that the Upper Bahariya Member was folded into doubly plunging anticline with a gentle plunge to SW and a relatively steep plunge to NE. The fold was dissected by a series of normal faults trending E-W to NW-SE. The anticline is asymmetric and exhibits sigmoidal shape. The axis has mainly a NE-SW orientation and exhibits changing of this orientation in the NE part to be ENE-WSW and in the SW part to be also ENE-WSW, relating to the effect of a rotational stress. Growth faulting and thinning of the studied member at the crest of the anticline suggest the syn-sedimentary tectonics. Thus, these structures are related to the Late Cretaceous right-lateral shear which led to the opening of the North Atlantic.

This paper presents a novel application of particle swarm optimization (PSO) in combination with another computational intelligence (CI) technique, namely, proximal support vector machine (PSVM) for machinery fault detection. Both real-valued and binary PSO algorithms have been considered along with linear and nonlinear versions of PSVM. The time domain vibration signals of a rotating machine with normal and defective bearings are processed for feature extraction. The features extracted from original and preprocessed signals are used as inputs to the classifiers (PSVM) for detection of machine condition. Input features are selected using a PSO algorithm. The classifiers are trained with a subset of experimental data for known machine conditions and are tested using the remaining data. The procedure is illustrated using the experimental vibration data of a rotating machine. The influences of the number of features, PSO algorithms and type of classifiers (linear or nonlinear PSVM) on the detection success are investigated. Results are compared with a genetic algorithm (GA) and principal component analysis (PCA). The PSO based approach gave test classification success above 90% which were comparable with the GA and much better than PCA. The results show the effectiveness of the selected features and classifiers in detection of machine condition.
