Esta dissertação busca identificar os elementos integrados pelos caminhoneiros autônomos em suas vidas móveis. Analisa como estes motoristas extraem permanência de suas mobilidades, constitutivas desses modos de vidas. Os caminhoneiros são profissionais especializados em operar veículos automotores de carga e fazer circular mercadorias a partir do transporte rodoviário. Trata-se de um conjunto disperso e heterogêneo que executa grandes jornadas de trabalho distantes de seus endereços fixos, para onde retornam intermitentemente. Sem desvincular-se dos cotidianos mais sedentários, intensificam o convívio com os caminhões e as estradas. Instrumento de trabalho, mas também casa móvel, o caminhão é onde se realiza obrigações, prazeres e lazeres. Os veículos adquirem diverso usos, modificações, valores, afetos e podem operar nas distinções entre pares. Cuidados de si e dos caminhões se misturam e revestem a boleia de domesticidade masculina que ajuda a viabilizar o ser caminhoneiro. Nas estradas, cumpre-se o itinerário, cujas rotas e prazos são estipulados pelo mercado. O itinerário é preenchido pelos caminhoneiros por intensas negociações entre tarefas laborais e extralaborais manifestadas nas escolhas e efetivações das paradas que pontuam o trajeto. Nos estabelecimentos comerciais, os motoristas se vinculam ao pessoal do posto, chapas e putas. São interações afetivas, trabalhistas, sexuais e de consumo que se articulam e animam as estradas. Tendo em vista a vida social das BRs esta etnografia se desenvolveu a partir de caronas nas boleias de caminhão, um tipo de mobilidade informal e gratuita inteligível neste contexto, em especial, para os caminhoneiros. As teorias elaboradas pelos motoristas inspiraram esta dissertação e suscitam dialogo com algumas discussões acadêmicas sobre mobilidades e trabalho caminhoneiro no campo das humanidades. Com isso, leva-se em conta que quando os motoristas e caminhões se movem pelas estradas, não só as mercadorias são postas em circulação através de itinerários. Junto a elas se movimentam também certa economia corporal, material e simbólica numa trama adensada de relações que cria e recria caminhos. Estes, indispensáveis para a permanência dessas vidas móveis.

Če dodamo ogromno število drugih vozil v prometu, ugotovimo, da so prometne nesreče s tovornimi vozili prepogoste. Posledice pa velikokrat katastrofalne.
Tako kot pri osebnih in drugih vozilih proizvajalci tovornih vozil varnostne elemente delijo na pasivne in aktivne. K aktivnim varnostnim elementom prištevamo zavorni sistem ABS, tempomate z radarjem za varnostno razdaljo, varnostne sisteme za bočno stabilizacijo priklopnikov, varnostne sisteme za preprečitev bočnega nagiba priklopnikov, varnostne sisteme za zapuščanje voznega pasu ipd. Pasivni varnostni elementi pri tovornih vozilih so naslednji: varnostne zračne vreče za voznika (samo pet odstotkov tovornih vozil v Evropi je opremljenih z zračno vrečo), zračna vreča za sovoznika in različica za dva sovoznika (odstotek obeh modelov zračnih vreč v tovornih vozilih je zanemarljiv), varnostna kletka kabine in varnostni pasovi. Sistem pasivne varnosti v zadnjem času doživlja velik napredek. Vse to bo opisano v nadaljevanju. Razvoj varnostnih elementov in pripomočkov za vožnjo žal ne more izključiti človeškega dejavnika, ki je največkrat vzrok za prometne nesreče tovornih vozil.

However, rather than change the culture, female truck owners have developed a strategy to gain acceptance and legitimacy within it. Identification with the cowgirl – the strong, courageous, and fiercely independent woman who helped build the American West – grants women the authority to enter the masculine world of pickup trucks on their own terms. It acknowledges them as adventurous, hardworking, and worthy of respect. As noted by the 25 pickup-owning women interviewed for this project – and considered through the lens of cowgirl feminism, a concept coined by Laura Jane Moore in her historical examination of the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame – the assumption of the cowgirl persona not only provides women access into a historically masculine culture, but pronounces them as exceptional women drivers.

Aluminum gained in importance as a material for lightweight design of reciprocating engines and compressors. The application of aluminum alloys contributes to lower fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. The benefit of using aluminum is evident due to the reduced weight of the parts, but in parallel there is a problem due to the lower strength of this metal. Surface texturing and oils of low viscosity are used successfully to improve the tribological characteristics of sliding parts. For research purposes, the inner surface of cylinder which was produced of aluminum was reinforced by integrating tribological inserts. Their task is to reduce friction and wear between the piston and cylinder and to increase strength of the cylinder liner. Tribological optimization was made on the basis of the measurement results of the coefficient of friction. It is confirmed that the tribological properties of the cylinder with the tribological reinforcements are more optimal, compared to the case of aluminum construction (coating or honing of the cylinder liner). For this purpose is currently being brought into operation the test bench in the Laboratory for Engines as well as Tribology of the Faculty of Engineering University of Kragujevac.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to manage organizations operating in today's complex global business environment. In particular, to manage the remote employees, who work outside of the physical boundaries of the firms, in accordance with the management principles and through the organizational purposes is considered one of the most challenging area. Despite their constantly growing numbers, the remote employees have been neglected in recent scientific studies. Meanwhile, most of those rare studies have been conducted on the IT industry and its teleworkers. However, it is known that the truck drivers have been working on behalf of a company for years almost never been in the head office. On the other hand, studies on long-distance drivers generally focus on risk factors, job stress and health of drivers. Therefore, it is a significant shortcoming that those employees, who are the critical link of the transportation function of logistics, have not been subjected on to the scientific management and organizational behaviour researches. Thus, the current study aims to eliminate this gap in this issue. This qualitative research study tries to respond above mentioned research gap with the anti-positivist approach. Contrary to the majority of the recent studies, in spite of employees (drivers), the fleet managers of the large-scale land transport companies in the industry have been selected as the unit of analysis. The data obtained from the open-ended interviews were analysed by Nvivo 12 program. The findings of our study were evaluated and discussed from an interpretive and external perspective.

With a change in EU-legislation regarding the dimensions
of heavy trucks [1] coming up, specifically allowing aerodynamic
devices fitted to the back of trailers, the transportation
industry is set to largely decrease its environmental
impact in the near future. These aerodynamic devices have
been researched for quite some time [2] but have not yet
gained widespread market acceptance, partly because of
the transportation industry’s complex owner structures and
partly because of size regulations of the past. Though with
this new legislation and other expected new EU-legislation
on CO2 emissions, development of these aerodynamic devices
looks set to become a field of intense study.
The study explores different options regarding the in-
fluence of changing the rear shape of a generalized ground
transportation system (GTS), a simplified model of a truck
geometry. By changing the rear shape the drag force induced
by the oncoming air flow was reduced, and the overall
coefficient of drag (CD) value lowered. There is also an
investigation as to how an added suction slot, and that slots
location, affects the CD.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the form of
the commercial computer software STAR-CCM+ was used
to simulate the flow around the GTS, and the results were
verified with similar studies and experiments [3] on the
same geometry. RANS equations and Menter k-ω SST turbulence
model was used for all simulations.
The results show that CD can be lowered by 21% compared
to a baseline case. Further on the added suction
slots can reduce drag, but depending on slot location also
can add to the drag force experienced by the GTS.

The topic of this dissertation was the use of distributed computing to improve the modeling of the interaction between passenger cars and trucks. The two main focus areas were the development of a methodology to combine microscopic traffic simulation programs with driving simulator programs, and the application of a prototype distributed traffic simulation to study the impact of the length of an impeding vehicle on passing behavior. The methodology was motivated by the need to provide an easier way to create calibrated traffic flows in driving simulations and to capture vehicle behavior within microscopic traffic simulations. The original design for the prototype was to establish a two-way, real time exchange of vehicle data, however problems were encountered that imposed limitations on its development and use. In order to maintain cab comfort truck drivers have to idle their engine to obtain the required power for accessories, such as the air conditioner, heater, television, refrigerator, and lights. This idling of the engine has a major impact on its fuel consumption and exhaust emission. Idling emissions can be as high as 86.4 g/h, 16,500 g/h, 5130 g/h, 4 g/h, and 375 g/h for HC, CO 2, CO, PM, and NOx, respectively. Idling fuel consumption rate can be as high as 1.85 gal/h. The accessory loading, truck model, fuel-injection system, ambient temperature, idling speed, etc., also affect significantly the emission levels and fuel consumption rate. An increase in accessory loading and ambient temperature increases the emissions and fuel consumption. During idling, electronic fuel-injection systems reduce HC, PM, and CO emission, but increase NOx emissions compared with a mechanical fuel-injection system. An increase of idling speed increases fuel consumption rate. There are many systems available on the market to reduce engine idling and improve air quality and fuel consumption rate, such as an auxiliary power unit (APU), truck stop electrification, thermal storage systems, fuel cells, and direct fire heaters. A direct fire heater reduces fuel consumption by 94-96% and an APU reduces consumption by 60-87%. Furthermore, these technologies increase air quality significantly by reducing idling emissions, which is the reason why they are considered as key alternatives to engine idling. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. "This article relates to the studies of roads and engages with the experience of driving
in Sakha (Yakutia), Siberia. The article intends to contribute to the broad corpus
of literature on mobility and argues that an alternative perspective on roads
and road-users from a geographical area beyond the West might better inform and
add another dimension to our understanding of roads and movement along them.
The article examines the fluid nature of roads in Siberia and the social significance
the roads carry by focusing on truck drivers and their perception of and engagement
with the so-called winter roads through their sensory experiences. The article
analyses narratives of the truckers who frame their experiences of the road with
close reference to time and money and where notions of agency of the road become
prominent.

We present vehicle detection classification using the Convolution Neural Network (CNN) of the deep learning approach. The automatic vehicle classification for traffic surveillance video systems is challenging for the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) to build a smart city. In this article, three different vehicles: bike, car and truck classification are considered for around 3,000 bikes, 6,000 cars, and 2,000 images of trucks. CNN can automatically absorb and extract different vehicle dataset’s different features without a manual selection of features. The accuracy of CNN is measured in terms of the confidence values of the detected object. The highest confidence value is about 0.99 in the case of the bike category vehicle classification. The automatic vehicle classification supports building an electronic toll collection system and identifying emergency vehicles in the traffic.
